Ethan got a bug! No not a real live bug but a virus. On monday night he woke up with 102 fever. I called his dr Tuesday at 8:30am sharp when the office opened. Yes, usually the dr likes you to wait 24 hours from when the fever started, so I fibbed a little and said he had a fever for 24 hours. I don't think a sick baby should have to wait 24 hours especially if meds will work, the sooner they can get meds the sooner they get better. Ne who, I am pretty sure I was the first caller since I watched the clock and when it changed to 8:30 I dialed the number. No one answered, so I called again and got the receptionist and got him in at 9:30. Guess what... the dr checked him and he looked good, ears, throat, no rash, no NOTHING. She said it was a virus most likely and to just let it take its course and give him tylenol and motrin. Sometimes you wish the doctors would find something so you can give them meds to make the sickies go away.
So we went home and Ethan just moaned and groaned and by the afternoon his fever was up to 104 so I called the doctor back and she said if it got to 105 to take him to the ER. After a night of like 2 hours of sleep, Ethan woke up in my arms and was as beat red as a tomato. I took his temp(rectally) which is most accurate and it was 104.9...I threw clothes on and headed straight to the ER. Of course kris didn't answer his phone and it was it was pouring rain. When we got to they hospital, they ran blood, urine tests etc and found everything normal. Said some babies just get virus's with high fevers. So, we went home and watched the hurricane and stayed inside and tried to keep Ethan from being too uncomfortable. He would wake up with high fevers and we would have to keep giving him luke/warm baths and just get his fever down. My poor baby was just not himself...he was lifeless. Finally, after 3 days, we were blessed to have our energetic Ethan back this morning. He has no fever and all the bugs seem to be gone. WHEW!!
Needless to say, no matter how many times I sanitize they can still get virusus. So, I guess sometimes you just can't do it all. The best part about it was Ethan let me hold him and cuddled next to me in bed...which he hasn't done since he started to be mobile. The past 3 sleepless nights were worth it for my baby to be in bed with me!!
